Our friend Chuck Abare says this about Lexel: "In all my previously made gourds, I used a material called LEXEL. I have found that this material is much better suited for an application like this and plus, it NEVER hardens and it sticks to the Polyethylene parts extremely well. Gourds that I prepared 4 years ago are still going very strong without a single failure or crack. I would suggest that if you fear that using PPCA might be a problem for you, then use the Lexel. Light Base Made with recycled materials
$4.99 Add to cartA light base is a must for making gourd luminaries. The base helps stabilize the gourd, so it won’t tip like it sometimes will by putting the light directly into the side of the gourd. Just use a hole saw to drill a 2-1/2″ hole in the bottom and insert the light base. It can be glued into the gourd with wood glue if desired. Paintable using any water based paint. Easy to clip light cord into base, slot on side allows for cord to be inserted and held in place. Also great to use as a base for gourds that do not sit flat. Light cord and bulb not included with base.
